Democrat Party Factions in this cycle:
LIBERAL ESTABLISHMENT: Socially and Economically Liberal as well as Globalist / Statist. Opposed to open Socialism but supportive of big welfare state.
WOKE LEFT: Stands for 3 things--1) Cultural Marxism (such as cancel culture and Social Justice Warriors) 2) Eco-Fascism (such as Green New Deal) 3) Economic Socialism (Sandernistas)
President Joe Biden (Delaware)
May have a serious fight on his hands due to his record as President---which includes debacle in Afghanistan, Recession, Gas Prices, Inflation, Scandal with son Hunter and his current Documents Scandal.
Vice President Kamala Harris (California)
A highly unpopular V.P.
Cackels Too Much....
Governor Gavin Newsom (California)
Straddles the line between the Woke Left and Establishment Liberals with a foot in both camps.
Problem: he is too politically California Kooky/Authrotarian Left for the nation at large.
Also has the baggage of being a hypocrite during his strict COVID Lock downs by violating them.
But would he challenge Biden as an incumbent?
Would surely jump in IF an open race or against Harris as the incumbent through succession.
Attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Massachusetts)
Who saw this coming? Bobby Kennedy's son..... the big environmental activist who has become anti-cancel culture and opp0sed government overreach on COVID....this could make him to Conservative for today's Democrat Party....WILD CARD
Governor Wes Moore (Maryland)
Being pushed by some Establishment Liberals as a fresh face with a war record and more moderate than Newsom.
IF he runs it would likely be only in an open primary.
Governor Jay Pritzker (Illinois)
He has tried to turn Illinois into the California of the Midwest. Especially on crime.
Even though he hints at running he isn't likely to get far.
U.S. Congressman Dean Phillips (Minnesota)
Wild Card Underdog.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (Indiana)
Is America ready for a gay President?
After an impressive showing for a nobody in 2020 - he is chomping at the bit to take on Harris who apparently he doesn't like.
But you have to factor in his debacle of a record as Transportation Secretary - baby formula shortage, supply chain crises, massive airline cancelations, claiming roads are racist, and the "glitch" that shut down ALL American flights for the first time since 9/11, etc.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan)
Speculation swirled around her for V.P. in 2020.
New Age Guru Hippie Chick Marianne Williamson (CA)
Will she just remain a sideshow or can she be taken serious?
U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock (Georgia)
He hinted at it but obviously isn't going to challenge Biden as an incumbent.
He hasn't carved out a national base yet.
U.S. Senator Cory Booker (New Jersey)
The ONLY reason he might run again is the same reason as last--to get noticed for V.P.
But will he run?....he says "no" but his staff says the door is always open on it.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (New Jersey)
Even though she insists on focusing on her Senate re-election....rumors abound that she might run again if Biden doesn't.
She has a foot in both camps---the Woke Left and Establishment Liberals of the Party.
She could muster a coalition that might give her the nomination.
She also would be the most formidable in the general election during this coming double dip recession because her left wing Sanders Socialist Populism could play well in the general election when people are hurting with the promise of more government. Could be a way for Dems to pick up a few extra votes when they are being blamed for the economic morass.
Something for Dems to think about....
Governor Roy Cooper (North Carolina)
That right there is enough to doom his chances in an increasingly Leftist Primary Base.
Failed Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams (Georgia)
Former State Representative Nina Turner (Ohio)
IF she actually runs it would be as a proxy for the Squad.
Former Mayor Julian Castro (Texas)
Last time he ran to get noticed for V.P.
This time he is laying low---but chatter swirls as a Hispanic V.P. for Harris if she wins the nomination. Could the chatter get him into the race?...at least to raise that profile higher?
Last time he flopped and dropped out before the first primary vote and endorsed Warren.
